Shepardson's story is truly inspiring. He was scheduled to work at Waimea Bay the day of the contest and had to take personal time off to surf in his heats. After finishing he immediately went back to his post to make sure that everyone was safe on the Day of the EDDIE. He was wearing his City and County lifeguard clothing when he was announced as the 2023 First Place Winner ! After winning the contest, he immediately returned to work to ensure everyone was safe on this historic day. He truly represented Eddie Aikau’s spirit that day, thinking of other’s safety first.
